Tooth Fillings

Chances are that most people need at least one tooth filling in their lifetime excluding some very lucky people!! Dental decay is the leading reason for tooth fillings. At Ipswich Dental Surgery, we truly believe in the saying, “Prevention is better than cure”. All our dentists emphasise on this philosophy and advise patients on how to avoid dental decay by having regular oral hygiene visits, improving diet.

In case a filling is unavoidable, we offer various treatments to eradicate the decay and restore the teeth. We always recommend a white ceramic and composite filling materials with cutting-edge techniques. The reason we recommend this over a metallic filling is because ceramic fillings are remarkably comparable to natural teeth – while restoring a smile.

Top Tip

Ask for our private white filling as it is aesthetically better and carries a warranty for 24 months – double of what you get on NHS.

Frequently Asked Questions

Both the fillings are comparable in strength and longevity – the primary difference is that a white filling is aesthetically better and is remarkably comparable to natural teeth in resemblance. NHS treatments do not include white fillings unless on a tooth where metallic filling cannot be clinically done.

Sometimes it is important to do a temporary filling to create a barrier for further decay until the time a more permanent restoration is done.

After the treatment is over and the numbness wears off, the dentist will check your tooth for a bite and may need to adjust till the time it feels natural in the mouth. All NHS fillings have a 12 month warranty whereas private fillings have a 24 month warranty. It is normal for the tooth to become more sensitive for a few days – up to a week before going back to normal. If the situation worsens please get in touch as it may require further treatment.
