Root Canal Treatments

Root Canal Treatment is required when the pulp of the tooth becomes infected – this can be due to a number of reasons but the primary reason is tooth decay and gum disease. If this decay is not detected and treated the roots (the nerve of the tooth) gets damaged. This leads to an awful dental pain, pain while chewing, swollen gums.

At Ipswich Dental Surgery, we endeavour to relieve you of the associated discomfort and pain by cleansing the root canal and using a high quality material within the canal so the infection does not spread/reoccur. This allows us to save and restore the tooth and save more expensive treatments in the future, such as implants.

Frequently Asked Questions

In the first instance if tooth can be saved, we always try to save it and present you with various options so you can make an informed decision. RCT also saves you more expensive treatments in long term such as implants, cosmetic surgery.

By having the tooth root treated, we are trying to save the tooth which then can be used to chew, talk and for aesthetics. Though it is easier to extract, we will always try to save the tooth first.

Yes, crowns are an integral part of the tooth restoration procedure, offering extra protection and strength to a tooth once the majority portion of the tooth’s “living” inside has been removed. Without a protective crown, the treated tooth is much more prone to break or experience other types of trauma that can result in future extraction of the tooth.

With help of numbing, Root Canal Treatment should be no different to other treatments and be pretty much painless. Depending on the level of infection, sometimes it may take a heavy dosage/longer time to numb the area.
